Vilbig Bass Club
The August Bill Grigsby Memorial Tournament Result
By Julie Grigsby
The Bass Club’s August tournament is held in memory of Bill Grigsby, Mark Grigsby’s dad. Bill was an ardent supporter of the bass club and fished as often as he could – mainly with Mark. He was instrumental in getting Mark on the lake; we think he did it so he could fish too! Nothing wrong with that! Although he passed away in 2009, his memory is still alive and well around the lake!
Tournament Results
Big Bass – Mark Grigsby – 5.15lbs
1st Individual – Andy Jai – 8.07 lbs
2nd Individual – Brandon Wooddell – 8.02 lbs
3rd Individual – Pierce Johnston – 6.09 lbs
1st Team – Rick Huffman/Brandon Wooddell – 12.08 lbs
2nd Team – Julie Grigsby/Andy Jai – 12.05 lbs
3rd Team – Pierce Johnston/Mel Hodges – 8.10 lbs
Only nine anglers fished the tournament, and 23 fish were weighed in – the average weight was 1.98 lbs. Those with limits included Pierce Johnston, Mel Hodges, Andy Jai, Rick Huffman, Brandon Wooddell, Tim Casbeer, and yours truly. Mark Grigsby weighed in two, but one outweighed my three-fish limit! Lol!
I have to say I think there was a little help from above in Mark’s boat by his catching the big bass of the day – and the biggest one seen this year so far! Thanks, Bill.
The fishing was tough, not only getting them to bite but also because of the heat. I dare say some of us were nearing heatstroke at the end. And the fish were scattered all around the lake and from shallow to deep. August is just a rough time to try to fish.
The meeting on Thursday was held at Grigsby's, and I cooked burgers. A special thanks goes to the Hodges, who brought some delicious potato salad!
