Biologist Report December 15, 2021 Greetings, Lake Vilbig Residents! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year! First, I want to thank all for letting me take care of Lake Vilbig and the ILA again this year. I appreciate it. This letter is to discuss our December 2021 management efforts. I came out once in December on the 15th. I don’t know why I pick the windiest day of the month to come out and do lake stuff, but I do. Water temp was reasonably consistent with temps in November. I think a lot of this is since we have had a weird Late Fall/ Early Winter thus far. With temps afternoon high temps consistently in the 70s and 80s, it doesn’t allow water temperatures to drop much. I measured water temperatures of 61 F. Visibility was around 36 inches. pH was still high. 8.4. The water was reasonably clear—a very nice green color, especially for this time of year. Alkalinity was stable at 120. We have reached the (mostly) dormant time of year, water temps chill to a point where fish and plants enter a dormancy phase for the year.
I didn’t see many birds. But it was so windy, and it was tough to quantify much. Thanks, Vilbig Residents! Chad Fikes Fisheries biologist
