Dear Neighbors,
We are pleased to announce that the canal dredging project has been completed. The contractor provided a cut approximately 15 feet wide by 200 feet long. To help guide navigation, white PVC markers have been placed on either side of the dredged passage.
The safe travel lane is located between these markers. They will remain in place for approximately two weeks to allow boaters to familiarize themselves with the new channel.
Please use caution while navigating the canal. Some scattered branches and debris are still throughout, similar to conditions found elsewhere on the lake.
We will be bringing the tree crew back out to assist in clearing the remaining debris. Note that not all of the debris is a result of dredging—much of it originates from decaying trees on the residential side of the canal. Most of those have been removed, but some cleanup remains, including several railroad ties that were pulled from the canal bottom.
During dredging, a significant amount of debris was uncovered and removed. Items included three complete toilets, bicycles, scooters, railroad ties, boulders, and full trash bags—evidence that the area had effectively become a dumping ground over time.
There are also two areas affected by sub-marine landslides, with the most significant located near the large culvert around the curve.
Included are three videos for your reference:
1. A time-lapse video showing my 16-ft pontoon navigating the canal from one end to the other.
2. Footage of the dredging equipment in action.
3. A clip showing the diver walking up the canal slope, demonstrating that areas outside the dredged path are shallow and may pose a risk to your motor. Please proceed with care and consider using a depth stick when navigating the canal. The Board cannot be held responsible for damage due to unsafe boating practices.
The restoration of natural water flow through the canal—one of our original goals—has now been achieved.
The project was completed significantly under budget. As a result, we will begin assessing additional park repair opportunities.
Stay tuned—exciting developments are on the horizon.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the Board.
I'd like to thank Angel and Peter for their exceptional support!
Sincerely,
BOD
